Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He saved four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
